The “How”: Living-Connected in a Way that Heals

Course Chapter: What Does a Healing Connection Look Like and How do you do it?

Now that you grasp "what" a soul-to-soul healing connection is: a sacred connection between the storyteller and the listener, and "why" it provides a profound pathway toward emotional healing. Let's understand 'how" it is done.

The essence of this connection lies in the Steps of Living-Connected, a framework that guides you through a process of facilitating emotional healing through genuine and empathetic listening and entering into a painful story with the ministry of presence and shared suffering.

The Six-Step Process of Living-Connected are:

  1. Being Available and Focused on their story
  2. Being fully Present and actively Listening,
  3. Being Curious and Interested
  4. Being Empathetic and Compassionate, (validation, shared suffering, unconditional love)
  5. Being Encouraging and Hopeful
  6. Connecting to God

Creating a Safe Space:

Central to this healing connection is the creation of a safe space that allows for vulnerability, transparency, and restoration. This space is where the one who is hurting can be authentic, and free to reveal the depths of their pain and experiences.

Listening Beyond Words:

A healing connection is experienced when the storyteller is free to tell their painful story to someone who is genuinely listening and interested in their pain. By not only hearing the words but also discerning the emotions and nuances behind them, the listener taps into a deeper level of understanding. This empathetic form of listening involves setting aside bias and judgment, allowing the storyteller's pain to be acknowledged and validated without attempting to fix or change it.

Shared Suffering and Empathy:

What you are offering the person in pain is a gift of selfless, focused, and genuine interest in their pain. This core component of the healing connection is empathy, where the listener not only comprehends the storyteller's perspective but actively shares in their suffering. Through validation, shared suffering, and unconditional love, the storyteller finds solace in knowing that their pain is not only recognized but also deeply understood.

This is the "how" to weep with those who weep, which brings healing.

Encouragement, Hope, and Divine Connection:

Guiding the storyteller toward divine healing and hope is the final facet of the healing connection. By providing encouragement and instilling hope, the listener becomes a catalyst for the storyteller's journey towards persevering through the painful journey with hope. The final step of connecting with a higher power – God – offers the chance for divine healing and a peace that transcends human understanding.

Reflective Journal Questions:

Reflecting on the concept of a soul-to-soul healing connection:

Think about someone you know who may be grieving. What would it take for you to approach them with an opportunity to listen to their painful narrative? What would prevent you from creating a safe space for someone to share their vulnerabilities and pain?

Consider the aspect of shared suffering and empathy in a healing connection. Have you ever experienced a moment when you actively shared in someone's suffering, offering validation and unconditional love? How did this form of empathy impact their emotional journey?

Furthermore, reflect on the idea of connecting to God for divine healing. How might this spiritual dimension contribute to a holistic sense of restoration and peace?
